Au Kerala et au Tamil Nadu, les jeunes hommes vivent dans une proximité quotidienne avec les animaux. Le jeu, la sensualité et la force composent un monde où les corps humains et animaux se côtoient, s’éprouvent et se répondent. Sous cette vitalité affleure une violence plus sourde.
À la lisière de la jungle, humains et animaux partagent un même territoire. La frontière entre le familier et le sauvage n’est jamais tout à fait établie. Un animal domestique peut devenir une proie ; un léopard peut surgir dans une cour et emporter un chien. L’animal est tour à tour compagnon, partenaire, force protectrice ou prédateur. Ces rôles se déplacent selon les circonstances, brouillant sans cesse les catégories.
Ici, le sauvage n’est pas un ailleurs : au jour le jour, il demeure comme une puissance discrète, toujours susceptible de refaire surface.

In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, young men live in close, everyday proximity to animals. Play, sensuality and physical strength come together in a world where human and animal bodies encounter, test and respond to one another. Beneath this vitality, a more subdued form of violence begins to emerge. At the edge of the jungle, humans and animals share the same territory. The boundary between the familiar and the wild is never entirely defined. A domestic animal can become prey; a leopard may suddenly appear in a courtyard and carry off a dog. The animal is, in turn, companion, partner, protective force or predator. These roles shift according to circumstances, constantly blurring the boundaries between categories.
Here, the wild is not somewhere else: day after day, it remains as a discreet yet powerful presence, always liable to resurface.
